When Graco decided that we wanted to meet some of the real people (funny, smart, interesting, people) behind some of the best reading material for parents on the web, my hand shot up like an excited school girl. I said, “so you want to get together with these women, throw parties, chat about being moms, eat great food in some very cool cities (and talk about Graco, of course) and someone needs to take on that job?” Hmmm… let me think it over… pick me, pick me, pick me!
Well I guess I was loud enough (I’ve been told that) because I have had the opportunity to help host the Graco Get-Togethers . Graco is excited about the opportunity to meet with moms in the blogosphere. It is really a great way to understand what is important to them, what engages them, what makes them tick and to best of all, hear all about their experiences being a mom. (I don’t even feel awkward shoving pictures of my kids in all the moms faces – they do it too!)
Well our first Get-Together was with the lovely ladies of the Silicon Valley Moms Blog who were kind enough to let us bring them together for a chic, poolside party at the Four Seasons Hotel in Palo Alto, CA. The weather was beautiful, the hotel was cool (heck, there was even a celebrity sighting!), the food and drinks were wonderful and the conversation was like the cherry on top! While the moms enjoyed hand massages, Graco took the opportunity to introduce sweetpeace™ – the Newborn Soothing Center™ and hear feedback. There were some great comments, suggestions and even pleas for an adult sized version. (duly noted!) It was a lively group that clearly enjoyed getting together, some even meeting for the first time in person, and Graco was honored to sponsor the event. (and I certainly enjoyed the in-bathroom TVs that I got to watch while showering!)
A few weeks later, Danielle (foodmomiac) was kind enough to open her home to the contributors of the Chicago moms blog for an intimate, holiday affair that included manicures, a jewely display and not to be outdone, sweetpeace! Unfortunately the Graco team got snowed out of the windy city so we weren’t able to join in the festivities but we sent Dr. Jennifer Rosinia, (a Chicago local) who Graco consulted with on the development of the Newborn Soothing Center. She was able to share a little bit more of the science behind the soothing which is always interesting (more interesting than the marketing folks talking, anyway). The moms chatted away over great food and drinks apparently into the wee (well “wee” for exhausted moms) hours of the night and had a wonderful time.
We are looking forward to our third Get-Together with the DC Metro moms blog where we will begrudgingly usher out the holiday season with one last party. The event will be hosted at the Le Chat Noir Restaurant in Washington, DC and Graco will once again be showcasing sweetpeace to moms who I’m sure are ready for some post-holiday sweet peace themselves. I’ve been told to expect a good time with some good time women, so we are very much looking forward to it!
