Help Name Our Unborn Baby!!

Your name says so much about you. How many times have you heard this statement? Well, when you are in the process of naming an unborn child – that statement preoccupies your every thought. You find yourself completely obsessed with finding the “perfect name”. My husband & I are expecting our 2nd child and we are going through the name game. We have had a lot of fun with it. I created a bracket (similar to the NCAA Basketball tournament) Boys on one side and Girls on the other side. Which names would make it to the “sweet sixteen” or even better the “final four”? That helps…but then you start reflecting on the name criteria.
Here are the criteria that my husband & I have submitted:
• We BOTH have to like it (which at times, seems impossible)
• The name has to work with Lefko
• Either the first or middle name need to have some family significance
• And finally – we want it to be strong & unique but not treading on strange. (my husband always compares the unique names to “Apple”)
Our criteria are quite traditional and simple.
Currently, the family significance is the one that seems to be the toughest. My parents were in town recently and we were interrogating them for a little family history lesson to find that perfect fix. I’m convinced the 12 nieces & nephews on my side make this a little more challenging as some great family significant names have already been taken.
We love our boy options but are struggling with the family name for a little girl. I thought I would give a little glimpse into my family tree – what would you go with?

Ada
Maude
Marjory
Edith

I totally feel your pain! We’re working on names for our first, due end of August. Family significance is #1 priority for us - naming after relatives who have passed away. So we narrowed down to three initials for the relatives that are closest to/most significant to me and my husband. We also want a strong name, not crazy, and my husband’s last name is a doozy so it complicates things. As we don’t know the sex, we’ve currently got a list of two first names and two or three middle names for each sex. At this point we’re thinking we’ll see what he/she looks like when they arrive!
In fact, might need to put Hazel on our list - H is one of our initials!

I’m putting in my vote for Sutton. It sounds strong, grounded and ‘new’ all at the same time. Good luck with the name game.
I like Sutton as well - I actually think it could work for a boy or a girl. Hadey and Hazel would be my next choices…
And I’m going to go out on a limb here and say you would probably be good to cross Maude and Edith off the list unless you’re looking to start a fight with your future teenage daughter

Ada & Marjory (maybe even call her Jory?) are beautiful! And my friend Gabrielle (Design Mom) has a Maude!!

I actually really like Hazel…and it goes well with your last name.
When I hear the name Hazel I immediately think of a beautiful eye color, not an old name. I love the name. Is there is chance she could have Hazel eyes….That would be cool.

I feel your pain — the reason we call The Boy … well, The Boy, is because we literally didn’t come up with a name until the day he was born. We had a middle name (it’s a family thing) but the first one was tough.
As far as your options go, I have to go with Hazel as well. Unique, but not strange, and it works well with your last name. I’d stay away from Maude and Edith — they still sound antiquated, and someone will eventually find an old video of the Maude TV series and it’ll all be over.
Of course, the real key to choosing a name is yelling the full one out loud several times — you know, to make sure it makes you sound parental.

Hazel is a very good choice. If you pair it with Louise or Rae you could have a nice flow to the sound of the name. Always remember to look at what the initials do and do not spell out when put together by others, especially kids, when yours is going to school later. And don’t be afraid to think about four names together. I did this with my daughter, Alicia Sierra Rose and our last name.
So best of luck to you and whatever choices you make. I’m sure your baby will love it when they grow up. After all, they’re the one who has to live with your discretion.
here are the names of our 3 kids… first up is.. Jorje-Rhaines…sounds like..george rains…..#2..Victoria Rose..and last but not least… Cedilla Marjorie….Hazel in a nice name..for a color that is…the first nick name that sticks in my mind is.. hazzy…. you might want to think about the kick names that will stick to your child..trendy names are soo cute.. for like a WEEK!!!.. i say stick to Marjory… how about Jean for a middle name…..Marjory Jean Lefko.. to me it sounds like a strong name for a girl…hope that you find a name that you both love…happy trails ahead!!
Maybe you aren’t looking deep enough. OK, I come from a family where we have traditional names like Christopher, Jonathan, and Matthew, but then we have Brayden. The girls, well, we’re even a little more off the wall. My older sister’s name is Bambi Lynn, mine is Aprille Mae (the Mae is also my grandmother’s middle name), my daughter is Abria Faith, my niece is Kortnie Marie (just a different spelling, lol) and I always said if I have another girl, her name would be Maelee Romayne (the first name is my paternal grandmother’s middle and maiden names put together and the middle name is my maternal grandmother’s name). So try using not only first names, but middle ones too and it might give you more to choose from. You may be surprised at what you find.
I like Hazel a lot! I think it would be pretty with a simple name like Mae or Anne I especially like Hazel Ann(e).
