Celebrating our 1 Year Graco Blogiversary!

Saturday marked the 1 year anniversary of this blog.  On December 20th last year I posted, with a great deal of excitement, anxiety and wonder, my first entry  here on our corporate blog.  253 posts later, I am astonished at how far we (and frankly, I) have come.  “Astonished?” you might think – “it’s not like you head into corporate blogging on a whim.”  Well yes- this is certainly true. There were a lot of plans, conversations, meetings and trainings, but I have to tell you- we had no idea what to expect.  (Wish there was a “What to expect…” version for corporate blogging!)

Fortunately, without too  many expectations, we allowed room for exploration, trial, open dialouge, mistakes, growth and most importantly and rewarding, we made room for all of YOU.  We opened that door because we knew it was a great, next step in our company’s journey and it has allowed our consumers to talk with us, meet us, share with us, enlighten us, complain to us, laugh with us, and hopefully, grow with us. (and grow we did, with 6 of our bloggers either becoming moms or expecting babies very soon! In fact, Karen is planned to have her son TODAY!)

And as I said on the day I entered our 100th post – I am proud too. I am proud of the team and that they have opened their hearts to share a lot of themselves in the hopes of connecting with other parents who are sharing the parenting journey that while sometimes rocky, is incredibly rewarding.  Hopefully we’ve reached some of the parents who are embarking on this journey too – perhaps given them a glimpse of what’s to come and assured them that we’ve all been there at some point.

In celebration of the team who has been so kind to share (sometimes overshare) their lives and experience as parents here on the blog, I wanted to give out the December Monthly Nods to our own team. I have selected my favorite post from each of the contributors (not including the folks who just joined us in November- I’ll get you guys next year!) and would like to share them with you now.

Kim LefkoAn Ordinary Miracle - This was a beautiful post when it was written but it has very special meaning now- and I think neither of them will mind me mentioning this, but Kim wrote this post for Heather. Heather is now less than a month from giving birth to her first child- an ordinary miracle, if you will. I guess she really took Kim’s post to heart!  Thanks for sharing such an intimate thing here on the blog and just as you hoped, talking about it certainly helped at least ONE couple :)

Erin McHugh - Learning Curves and Lessons from a Dog Mom – Erin is crazy about kids, loves being “domestic” and is excited about starting her own family someday – so much so that she just couldn’t wait for kids!  Rocky (her new black lab) is doing a great job prepping Erin for parenthood and I loved Erin’s list of the lessons she has learned from being a “Dog Mom” and just know she’s going to be a great mom one day! (because learning from “mistakes” is a rite of passage with kids too!) :)

Melissa ParlamanBirthday Wishes to My Daughter - Melissa just happens to be one of my best friends so I have  watched “PP” grow from a little baby to the “happy and vibrant” (that’s an understatement!) adorable girl she is. It’s also been fun to grow alongside Melissa as moms and see how the world changes for us when little ones come along. This was a sweet reminder of how time passes so quickly.

Jon DeHartWhat I Said Instead – Let me tell you that this one was tough. I LOVE all of Jon’s posts- I always get excited when I see a new submission come in from Jon. (of course they do scare me a little thinking that in 10 years I will have my own ”Gus”) But I chose this one because I find myself doing this all the time (saying something nicer than I’m really thinking) and I can only imagine the hilarious things that probably come out of the side of Jon’s mouth at home!  Thanks for always being there for a good (sometimes inappropriate) chuckle :)

Kristin DeLoachParenthood x2: The Name Game - This was an adorable run-down of how Kristin & her husband landed on the nickname “Punkin’ Bear” for their adorable daughter.  It’s funny how most of us choose names for our children before we’ve ever met them and sometimes those names just don’t do them justice! This was also before “Ladybug” came along – I’m anxious to hear how they arrived at that nickname!”

Amy SleepReliving Summer Memories – Amy says it best – having children is like reliving your life all over again (I am not looking forward to when B is in 6th grade!). In this post she talks all about the fun things she and Boog are doing now that it is summer.  When you’re young and you don’t have a care in the world, life is pretty sweet. Amy has a pretty good list of all the things she loved about summer and why having kids lets her enjoys all of those again.

Amy TriceChildproofing the Backyard – I chose this post of Amy’s because I laugh (and halfway cringe) at the idea of Slick trying to be helpful. My mom used to call me “Helpful Hannah” growing up – I don’t know if it was a reference to anything but I do know (now) that it was clearly out of sarcasm. Kids  just aren’t helpful with much unless you consider “helping” creating a bigger mess of something , taking 2 times longer to complete a task, and adding frustration to the most menial activity!  I’m sure Slick is only going to get more “helpful” as he gets older and I can’t wait to hear those stories!

Team- thanks again for everything. I look forward to another great year!

I hope you enjoyed these posts and have enjoyed what we’ve tried to do here on the Graco blog. As you see, it’s a new look but much of what you’ve come to read here will stay the same – our stories, as parents, straight from our hearts.
