Why I Need to Know the Gender of My Baby

boy-or-girl-image1Anyone who knows me knows I am a planner. Last minute things make me anxious. Therefore, I buy birthday presents ahead of time (sometimes 3 months ahead of time), pre-order anything that I can (birthday invitations, birth announcement envelopes, etc.), book my birthday party months ahead of time (yeah, PP’s birthday party has been booked since Christmas–her party is in April). I always need to be prepared (can you imagine that I never made it to Girl Scout status either..always remained a Brownie). Therefore, when people ask me if I am going to find out the gender of #2, I blurt out, “of course!” (actually, I give my pregnant friends a hard time if they don’t find out since I can’t pre-buy their baby gift–nuts, huh??).

So, I have about 2 more weeks until I find out if it is going to be a little prince or princess. Of course that did not stop me from buying some gender neutral clothes and burp cloths that I found on sale. See, the practical side of me needs to know what I am having so I can buy ahead, find some good bargains, borrow from people, etc.

If I find out that I am having a girl, then I have very little prep/purchase to do–just wash PP’s 0-3 months clothes. However, if it is a boy, I need everything. Since I knew I was having a girl the first time around, everything I received was pink. Pink blankets, pink washcloths, pink burp cloths, pink bibs. So, if this baby is a boy, I need some blue stuff, or this little guy will be the best dressed “pink princess.” And I need new boy crib bedding too (of course!!).

So, not only will the suspense drive me nuts but there is also a practicality to it all. I am thinking that this will be a boy since my pregnancy is much different from PP’s (eating different things, feeling differently, etc). I am also taking the old wives tale to heart that says the lower the heartrate, it is more likely to be a boy (#2 has been around 140). In two weeks, the suspense will be over & the planning will begin!! Don’t worry, I won’t hold you in suspense- look for an update from me in early March! (you know, just in case you want to buy me a gift early or something) :)

Oh I know the feeling of needing to know. I’ve been told why spoil the surprise….UMMM cause how can you buy the cutest things ever if you don’t know…I guess you could always go neutral with everything but how bland can that get? Especially if your on baby #4 like me. (by the way mine is a GIRL! again..lol..I already have 2 girls and 1 boy). And I started to gather the cutest girl things I can find.
As far as the old wives tale, this little girl’s heart rate has been anywhere from 143-156 and its a girl, so don’t hold much stock into that. But I have found it to be true that if you crave meat and potatos, its a boy and if you crave fruits and veggies, its a girl. Right now you can give me Shrimp and a fruit salad and I would be in my glory.
And by the way one more thing, I understand the need to get everything. I had gotten rid of everything but the crib then found out I was pregnant. So here we go from scratch. By the way, I’m due in April.

I’m dying to know too for number 1 and it will be another 4 – 5 weeks till we find out. I’ve been told the “most true” old wives tale is that if your body hair grows more quickly its a boy and if it grows slower its a girl. That would make mine a boy! I can’t wait till its only 2 weeks to go!

I was told by my labor nurse that the lower heartbeat thing was real…
But anyway, I have to comment b/c I DID NOT find out the gender of my baby (but ‘knew’ in my gut that I was having a boy)… AND I DID :)
SO there I was -overjoyed with a healthy little boy… and ALL yellow clothes :) I could have kicked myself, but quickly got over it- he was a 1st grandchild – and I was quickly inundated with blue everything :)

Just for the record- I think you are having a boy and what I tell everyone about boys is this:
It is so wonderful how SWEET little boys are- esp. to their mamas… my son is a ‘guy’s guy’ but SO SWEET.
Boys are great… well, babies are great… CONGRATS :)
