I have a [Girly] Girl!

No- I don’t have any news to share and you’re not behind on any late-breaking news coming out of the Lebresco camp, but after 2 1/2 years of being the Mom to a little girl it has taken some getting used to and it’s s-l-o-w-l-y starting to sink in…

Here are the significant [and not so significant] events that have led up to this point:

- Ultrasound News - OK-this was clearly the big and first event that turned my world upside down. We decided to find out the baby’s gender with my second pregnancy and we were kind of hoping for a girl (since we already had a boy) so when we heard the news we were thrilled!  That feeling was quickly and shamefully replaced by haunting memories from my pre-teen days and my recent trip to the movies to see Mean Girls.

girlyshower1- A Girly Baby Shower - I thought I would by the type to hit the baby stores immediately in search of adorable girly clothes but that really never kicked in. It was either the 1 year old I had at home that kept me out of the malls or that the news just hadn’t sunk in. Either way, the adorable pink tweed coat and pink Uggs I recieved as a shower present brought me back to reality and got me excited about having a little girl to dress up.

- Girly toys – B was only 16 months at her second Christmas but I found myself forcing some girly toys into my shopping basket. She had been using her brother’s toys all this time so I thought I should introduce a doll or something…

- Pink toes! This one caught me by surprise and left me feeling a little guilty. My daughter (at 18 months) went to her Grandma’s house for an overnight and returned with her toes painted pink! I felt bad that I hadn’t even considered painting her fingers and toes yet.  (Perhaps because mine never get enough attention) My daughter now loves PINK! fingers and toes and I paint them (minus her tasty thumb) whenever I get a chance.

pigtails3- “Princess” – I’ve never been a big fan of princesses, the idea of princesses, the name “princess” or the frilliness of princess stuff. Guess who is? My princess. Damn.

- Pig Tails- This was one of my favorite moments that reminded me that I have a little girl -the moment I realized her hair was long enough for the cutest of girly hairstyles- pig tails! She looks adorable in her little pig tails and I actually enjoy doing her hair. She sits more patiently then I ever remember sitting while I comb ever last whisp into the tightest tails possible- all to come out 10 minutes later…

- Dressing the part - B has turned out to be one fickle fashionista. This was something I never expected. At 2 1/2 she changes her outfit 5-10 times a day (as I write this she is on outfit 4 and it is 2pm). At first I was so proud of her fine motor skills- I would admire her abilities as I stuffed my 4 year old’s legs into his pant leg. Along with her ability came her opinion- she has defnitely likes and dislikes about her clothes and if it’s not PINK! there’s a good chance it will collect dust in her closet.

Though she looks the part she can still give her brother a beat down when prompted. While I always thought I’d have a little tomboy (because that’s what I certainly was) I’m really starting to embrace her early feminity and I’m enjoying it more every day.

Hi Lindsay! Our 2-year-old also has strong opinions about her attire, but she prefers shorts and t-shirts. Or wearing nothing at all. LOL.

She really hasn’t gotten much into the “princess” thing just yet (thank goodness), but I’ll be curious to see if that changes as she gets older.

Right now, she’s mostly passionate about being outside, going on “errands” to anywhere, eating noodles and “dark chocolate” (not together, mind you…), and swinging “high in the sky” at the park. :)

So cute! My 2 year old has some fun and unique fashion ideas as well, though so far she usually agrees with whatever I put on her during the week…weekends I let her pick things out at least in the mornings for playtime. She recently received 2 dresses from her great grandma that she has started calling her “princess” dresses – she puts them on and twirls around in them saying, “I’m a princess!” On the other hand, she also loves to dig in the dirt, so for now at least she seems to be a tomboy princess?! :)

Good points raised here. I am grateful to you for that, however you deserve more thanks than that. I suffer from color blindness (deuteranopia in my case). I mainly use Opera browser (no idea if that changes anything), and a considerabland a number of web sites are challenging to comprehend thanks to a careless range of colours used. However, here, as the range of colors is good, the design is extremely tidy and pleasant to comprehend. I don’t know whether it was a premeditated and conscious undertaking, or just the ‘luck of the draw’, but I still thank you.
