Dance Baby Dance

This is an event I have been dreaming about for years — our Bear’s FIRST DANCE RECITAL! I know this can be a dreaded event for many out there, but for me it was somewhat of a ‘dream come true’. Why? It’s hard to explain. Maybe because part of me thought it may never happen. And here it was! It sounds somewhat silly but there is something fun about the crowd, the costumes, the music, and the butterflies before stepping on stage. Well…I had no idea the thrill and different set of butterflies that came with being seated in the audience and observing as the proud parent.
Bear is 3 and just made her tap dance debut. The song choice was quite expected; the Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini. The costume choice? As my daughter described, a “completely inappropriate” bikini.
After attending the Parents Observation Lesson about four weeks before the dance recital – I thought, there is no way these kids are going to be ready. Ms. Rhonda looked at me like I had two heads and said, “They’re three?! Don’t worry about it.”
The night came – and Ms. Rhonda was right. Don’t worry about it. Bear’s class was fourth onstage, and I don’t know why…but I was a nervous wreck. My husband was laughing at me, but my mom (having her fair share of dance recitals) smiled empathetically and provided the quiet support only a mom could provide. The kids were fabulous. To all parents out there…kudos for keeping your cool during those “on-stage” moments.
I find these silly little moments create complete joy in life.

Awwww! The things I have to look forward to with my daughter. I’m sure I’ll be a nervous wreck too.
Alex is such a little star!!
