Growing up doesn’t mean you have to be GROWN UP – Graco Get One Give One #3!

xmas-cookies-2009-003-300x224 Growing up doesnt mean you have to be GROWN UP - Graco Get One Give One #3!Let’s face it. I’m a kid at heart. I love the holidays, I love to celebrate and I love to keep the traditions going that I grew up with. Fortunately, I also have friends who feel the same way. The majority of us live at least a few hours from our families, so we’ve kind of created our own little family of friends. Some people might think we’re a little weird, but we, all fully-grown “adults,” can’t help but go all out with our celebrations, even if none of us have kids around yet. Case in point:

1. Every year we do a corn maze when fall comes around – we split into two groups and then race to see who can finish first.

2. Easter egg hunt? Yes, we still do one – and hiding eggs in a small apartment forces you to get really creative.

3. We have both a pumpkin-carving and a gingerbread house-building competition every year. And when I say competition, I mean we are serious. Respect is a big prize to win people.

4. We bake and frost Christmas cookies with the lighting of the tree in Rockefellar Center and carols on in the background.

xmas-cookies-2009-001 Growing up doesnt mean you have to be GROWN UP - Graco Get One Give One #3!5. We always do some kind of ice-skating and going to see a giant tree all lit up. Last year it was here in Atlanta, this year, a big group of us is going to NY to see the real deal.

6. We celebrate birthdays with scavenger hunts, Amazing Race-style competitions, and murder mystery parties.

7. We still do a “Secret Santa” and gather around the tree with hot cocoa to open presents together.

Someday we’ll have kids to share these traditions with and to make celebrating the holidays even more exciting. But for now, we’ll just have to pretend we’re still kids instead :)

What traditions do you hope your kids will continue to celebrate, even when they are all grown up?

I would give this to my friend who is expecting in May for the first time. They have been trying for 2 years to have a baby and they are now happily expecting and I would love to be able to help her set up her nursery with all the essentials, like this sound machine!

  • michelle rosborough December 11, 2009 at 8:27 am

They still help me decorate the house

My son was born premature and had to spend a few weeks in the NICU and the thing I still think about is how loud it could get. I remember nights where monitors would go off every few min and there were tons of people around. I would donate this sound machine to the NICU to help sooth and calm the babies in the smaller, more private areas to try to help them get good rest and get out faster.

would love to give one of these to my friend Melanie who just had a little girl this week!

Lovin’ the cookies guys.. that’s on our to-do list for next week.

  • Vanessa December 11, 2009 at 9:38 am

I would give it to a friend of mine who is due to have her second baby in February. She could probably really use it as she has a one year old at home who is probably quite noisy and will wake the new baby up!

  • Mary December 11, 2009 at 9:39 am

I would hope our kids keep the tradition of hanging stockings for St. Nick.

I would love to give one of these to our friends Ted and Jen who are expecting in March.

I think I’ll go bake some Christmas cookies now…..

The corn maze seriously creeps me out. The corn makes weird noises. I think the tradition I would like my kids to keep up when they are adults is more of a general thing – just to not forget the spirit of Christmas and make family #1.

If I won this, I would donate it to a local charity called the Household Pantry. They serve and help so many local families all year round and especially during the holidays. I would love to be able to help them help a needy family and their baby sleep better!

    Thanks!

I would give the sound machine to my sister in law who has 3 girls. Her house gets LOUD so I am sure a little peaceful slumber for her newborn would be most appreciated!

I would gift mine to a friend who found out she was expecting the same day her husband got laid off. They need all the help

  • Aura December 11, 2009 at 10:05 am

After spending almost 3 years in Columbia Presbytarian hospital with my son I know first hand how hard it is to get a decent nights sleep with all the noise and alarms. I’m sure they can use it for children (and parents) there.

One tradition thar our family has acquired throughout the years is to celebrate the coming of Christmas with an advent calendar and wreath. The meaning behind advent us a beautiful thing to pass on to my four children, andi
do hope that they continue it with their own families as they get married and start families of their own.

I’d love to share this with my Sister in law, who recently had her fourth baby, they have had some financial hardships, and I think it would mean a lot for her to receive this gift!!

    Thanks

I would like to keep one for myself since I’m having a baby in Feb and the other I would donate to my church for a family in need

  • Leanne December 11, 2009 at 10:42 am

I would donate this sound machine to a family in our church who is adopting a baby boy this week. They expected the adoption process to take 18 months and it took 6 weeks. They found out a few weeks ago that after 3 biological girls, they are getting their little boy! They thought they were done, so they are starting from scratch and would love this! Because we don’t need any baby things now, I would give the other one to our sweet youth minister at church who is due with her first in January.

I would give one to my brother who is expecting a baby with his wife in February. Times are tough these days and I would love to help them out by giving them a little something to make their babies nights easier.

    Thanks!

  • looneyjen December 11, 2009 at 11:22 am

man, do we need one of these. timely!

I’d donate one to a millitary family on an air base. those jets and planes are LOUD! and some of those parents are footing it alone through deployments, so sleep is sure to be sacred.

  • Amanda December 11, 2009 at 11:30 am

I would give one to my sister-in-law who is expecting in March. She has a 2 year old who is loud and it would help the little one to sleep!

  • Amanda Andrews December 11, 2009 at 11:49 am

If I were to win today’s contest I would give one to a friend of mine, Mandy. She is pregnant with her 5th child and her youngest is still under a year! I know it can get hectic at her place, so I believe a sound machine would help to drown out the noise of all the rest of the kiddos. And of course, being preggo with twins and having a toddler myself…it would definitely benefit me!
    Thank you for this opportunity!
    Amanda

We give them a new ornament every year. It’s a tradition started by my mother in law when my husband was small. I hope our kids (and their future families) appreciate it as much as I have.

I would give one to my cousin who is expecting her first baby this month. She and her husband recently had to move back in with her parents. With younger siblings still at home, that full house is awfully noisy.

  • beth December 11, 2009 at 12:19 pm

this sound machine might help our 2yr nap. but if i won i would love to give this to my friend who will be having baby #4 in july 2010

  • Andrea Kruse December 11, 2009 at 12:19 pm

What a fantastic prize today! I never knew all the products Graco had to offer.

I would share the other one with my Sister-in-Law who we hope will be adding to the family in the near future. She works hard, but is having a hard time with the economy the way it is. I have been trying to put baby related items away for her when I can. A sound machine would be especially helpful since they moved back in with family and the house is a bit crowded and noisy.

  • Over Thirty Mommy December 11, 2009 at 12:35 pm

If I was selected as the winner, I might just have to “give” them both. Both of my younger sisters are pregnant and due within a few months of each other. My sister Stacy is already a mom of 2 boys and wanted to try one more time for her girl but it was just not in the cards and she is due with another boy in a couple weeks. Soon she will be outnumbered 4 to 1! Yikes!

  • Leighann December 11, 2009 at 12:48 pm

My son needs a little noise in the background so that he doesn’t hear the rest of us who stay up later and get up earlier (unfortunately). I would give this to my coworker who is due next month.

  • Kristin December 11, 2009 at 2:15 pm

I would keep one for my little ladybug, MJ, and I would give the other monitor to my friend Tami, as she owns her own childcare business and spends so much of her own time helping kids. Plus, she is expecting her own baby now, and deserves something nice!!

  • yurisa zamarron December 11, 2009 at 2:17 pm

i would love this , i would actually dnte this to my sister in law , and anyone with multiples will tell you that anything to get them to sleep all through the nite would be great!!

  • Holly December 11, 2009 at 3:05 pm

I would give this to my teenage cousin expecting her first baby. She and the father plan to raise the baby AND finish school. Anything that will help their little girl sleep will certainly be a help to them. And, my baby would love to get one of these too…he currently has a fan running in his room but would love to have something safer.

Baking cookies has got to be one of my favorite parts of the holiday season as well. Plus, who could resist yummy cookie in the house for weeks?!! :)

I can’t wait to give one of these sound machines to a cousin I don’t often get to see. My gosh I don’t know how she does it, but she has a 2.5 year old son who STILL does not sleep through the night. Ahhhhhhhhh, my 5 month old is giving us a run for our money I can’t imagine doing it for years!!! She has finally resorted to putting a DVD on each night to get him to stay in bed which means he ultimately falls asleep during the movie. That’s not exactly great bedtime habits so I’d love for her to have one of these in hopes that something a little more soothing will help the little guy (and mom and dad too) get some much needed rest.

  • Lauren December 11, 2009 at 3:33 pm

I would think I would have to give both away. I have two friends who are expecting their first child in a couple of months. One has a husband who was recently laid off. They would appreciate this so much. I don’t have children of my own yet, but once I do I think Saturday morning cartoons will be an important tradition I bring into their lives! :)
