Monthly Nods – December

new-monthlynod_150x1501Donna Donnelly Until We Meet AgainTheta Mom

This post touched me in so many ways and places, I had to go off by myself to sit and reflect for a while. I read it just as I was getting off of the phone with my Mom who told me she had just received a thank-you note from little Lovebird for the beanie-buddie giraffe she had given her.

In the card were pictures taken from that day in early November. I had driven down to New Jersey to pick up my Mom to bring her over to see all of us because Sweetpea was home for an abbreviated visit from France. Mom-Mom hadn’t seen Sweetpea since she left for France earlier this year and she hadn’t seen Lovebird since right after she was born 8 weeks prior. We took some 4-generation photos that day and some really great shots of Mom-Mom with her great-granddaughter. I’m so glad I made the drive and I’m so glad we still have our Mom-Mom. Lovebird is lucky for now… to have 5 great-grandmothers…My heart goes out to THETA MOM and is filled with Thankfulness.

I am giving my nod to Jennifer at Playgroups are no place for Children. I loved this post – . It totally took me back to my own childhood. I got a little melancholy reminiscing about all of my own childhood toys and wondering where they are now. Between our recent move to GA and my parents move out of my childhood home, I am curious to know where these few items ended up. I may have to go digging through some boxes this weekend to rediscover my Chrissy doll with the red hair that “grew,” trio of Charlie’s Angels action figures and Puffalump cow youth.

Heidi ParkerKids Will Sleep Anywhere - Crazy Adventures in Parenting

The pictures in this post say it all—how adorable! As I prepare for my first baby to be born at the end of January, I truly hope I can also adopt Lisa’s “ninja-like skills for insta-sleep”. We lead a fairly social life and it’s important to me to make my little one a part of that. Having the ability for my baby to “sleep anywhere” can only be a step in the right direction to making this happen, right?

Kelly Voelker - Funny GirlMommin’ It Up!

I loved this post, not just because the picture is adorable and made me laugh, but it also made me think about the relationship that I have with my mom. Jenny says, “My mom used to tell me, ‘I’m the best friend you’ll ever have.’ And lucky for me, she was right. She taught me that to be Sophie’s friend, I also have to discipline her, protect her, and teach her. And I’m privileged to do all of that.” I think that’s exactly why my mom is my friend, too. She always had our best interest at heart and we’ve always had fun together, but when it comes down to it, she still knows when to protect me or put me in place when I need it. And she’s done that since I was born. I’m not sure when I realized we were friends too, but I hope it was around the age Sophie is right now!
