Today, we talk to our very own fashion designer, Jill Carter, who gives us a sneak peak at one of the many trends the Graco Fashion team is working on for this year…
When did you know you wanted to work in fashion?
I wanted to paint and be an artist as a kid. I started out in Fine Arts; drawing and painting and then found my true passion- the love of pattern and color. It was then, that I went into Textiles, majoring in Print Design. I love looking at patterns and pairing them with color but I really just stumbled into fashion design. Out of college, I started out as a fabric stylist for Burlington Industries. Since then, I’ve translated my passion into fashion!
How long have you been working in fashion?
I have been working in fashion for 21 years!
What inspires you?
Inspiration comes from so many places. I of course love to shop and to see color and fabric, so retail home stores, fabric stores and of course clothing fashion inspires me. I also get inspired from traveling and exxploring different cities. My first boss gave me the best advice: he said you need to go outside, look and walk around. You will get so many ideas. I worked in NYC at the time and it is an amazing place to watch people and find new inspiring things. They are words we, in fashion, live by when looking for new trends for the Graco line.
What is the Habitat trend?
Habitat is all about things found in nature. Patterns could be a mix of sweet forest animals, leaf motifs, fruit or mushrooms motifs coordinated with textured prints of wood grain or striped patterns. I think it works perfectly for baby. It’s really sweet and reminds me of a wonderful forest for baby. It also works well in the home because of all the nature-inspired colors of green, brown, tans and soft corals.
What is your favorite Graco fashion that fits into this trend? And where can you get it?
Utopia from BRU is one of my favorite nature inspired collections. The Graco fashion team loves this theme so lookout for more Habitat designs the fashion team is working on for 2010/2011.
And now it’s your turn! Check out these prints above and let us know which one is your favorite. Who knows, you might inspire Graco’s next fashion!

C!
I love B!
My fave is C! Though, my Graco fashion days are numbered. My youngest, and last, child is growing quickly.
C is my favorite!!! Almost matches my nursery theme of trees, birds, and owls. I just fell in love with the nature theme!!
I really like B. It’s neutral but I like the graphic quality. And you cuold use it with any baby.
I like all of them! lol. I think B is my favorite though… it seems like it would be the best pattern for everything (carseat/stroller/pack n’play, high chair/etc…) whereas the other patterns I feel would only look good on certain items.
They’re all cute though :O)
B – I like that it’s subtle. Not really a fan of the big trees, but of course that’s just me and that’s why there are so many choices!
I guess I like C the best, of the four. But I’ll be honest…I’m much more into pink glittery girly patterns
C!!!! i would totally buy that for my daughter!! i love the little birds!
To be honest, I am not big on any of them…and normally I looove nature colors but these are just a little too pale for me so if I had to pick I suppose I would go with B. I would like it if the browns were a little deeper and the greens were a little brighter, I know I am picky.
A!
But while I’m here I’d like to suggest more colors and “boy” prints on the Nautilus. The girls have several very cute options to choose from, while the boys have gray, brown, and black. Boring! Boys like colors and prints too!
I love C. I’m fond of all of them, but C is my favorite.
I would have to say C is the custest but honestly…all four are just a little too busy
I like A and D… I have an “outdoor”… we do the whole hunting and fishing and mudriding and choice A is real woodsy and would work perfectly in my son’s room while D is more feminine and would work great in my daughter’s!!
I like A and D… I have an “outdoor” FAMILY… we do the whole hunting and fishing and mudriding and choice A is real woodsy and would work perfectly in my son’s room while D is more feminine and would work great in my daughter’s!!
I love C
A, however I have a girl and don’t know if I would choose any of these patterns for a girl I do really like A if I was choosing for a boy though.
I really love C!!! I like B a lot but I’d love to see it in brighter colors like black, white, and red, or black, white and turquoise. I’d love to start seeing more bold patterns and bright colors. For the past few years it seems like most of the patterns have been muted colors with mostly sage green and browns.
I LOVE C!!
I like C and D best!
I love A and C. The colors are great – they go with everything! I can see the patterns being used for a boy or girl.
C, even though all the prints are really high end looking.
I like both C & D, but D wins!
C&D, but because of the birds I love D best. I would love to buy products that have it!
I like C & D!
C
C & D, but if I haaad to pick just one, I like C.
Both C & D in organic cotton!
I love C!!
I really, really like C
I love C, my husband likes B, and we both agree that D is pretty cool and the most retro in style.
I love C!
None really – But if I had to pick ‘C’
All the prints are a little 2009 lets see something NEW
B!
B and C. And please put them on the MyRide and Nautilus, pretty please?
I love C!
B and D are my favorites!
B
I love D because it covers all 4 seasons of the year!
I love C!
