How to Shop for a Swing

Do you need to quiet a fussy baby or are you looking for a safe, comfortable place to keep your little one occupied while you’re working around the house?

A swing is a great option to soothe or stimulate your baby depending on his needs (and the moment!) With so many options available, it might be difficult to decide which type of swing is best for your child. We’ve tried to break it down for you by identifying some common features you might be looking for and matching up the Graco swings that can best meet those needs:

Safety: First and foremost is safety for your swing. Make sure your swing has a safety harness for buckling baby into the seat and that you use it every time. That way, you can rest assured that your baby is safely rocking by your side.
Recommended Swing: All Graco swings are rigorously tested for both safety and durability, and every Graco swing comes with a 3- or 5- point harness.

Power Source: Depending on your needs, there are both battery-powered swings and swings that you can plug in for AC power on the market.
Recommended Swing: Most Graco swings are battery operated, but if you’re looking for the convenience of a plug in, Graco offers both the Lovin’ Hug® Swing (for infants up to 30 lbs) and the Sweetpeace™ infant soothing swing (5.5-25 lbs) with plug in features.

Ease of Use – Features like open top swings, single-hand recline and flip-up trays make it easier to get baby in and out of the seat.
Recommended Swing: The Silhouette™ Infant Swing (5.5-30 lbs) and Lovin’ Hug® Swing (for infants up to 30 lbs) are great options if you’re looking for easy-to-use features.

Variable Soothing – Look for a swing that offers options for soothing, from a variety of speeds, multiple motions, white noise, music and more – you never know what your baby will respond best to, or if they will respond to the same thing every time.
Recommended Swing: Graco’s Sweetpeace™ infant soothing swing (5.5-25 lbs) has 15 songs and sounds to soothe and amuse baby, plus a plug-in for MP3 players that allows you to play baby’s favorite songs. The Sweetpeace also comes with a removable seat that offers several types of swinging motion.

Convenience – Check to see if your swing has a removable, machine washable seat pad, is easily portable and has the option for removable infant head support.
Recommended Swing: Select models of our Lovin’ Hug™ Swing (for infants up to 30 lbs) have machine-washable pads, removable body support, six swinging speeds and a 30-minute timer to help extend battery life.

Longevity/multi-use – Many swings on the market are designed to grow with your baby by transitioning to and from a swing to a bouncer.
Recommended Swing: The  Graco Swing and Bounce™ 2-in-1 Infant Swing gives you the option of using a bouncer with your little one from 5.5 to 18 lbs or using the swing from 5.5 – 25 lbs.

Stimulation: Looking to keep baby entertained and amused? Mobiles and toys can provide visual stimulation and music can soothe baby.
Recommended Swing: The Silhouette™ Infant Swing has a variety of plush animals, colorful shapes, toys and sounds to keep your baby entertained as he rocks. Great for babies 5.5-30 lbs.

Portability: Are you looking to move baby room to room with you? Check out swing options that have a removable rocker that allows you to bring baby with you throughout the home. And if you’re on the go, look for a swing that travels easily.
Recommended Swing: Graco’s SnugGlider™ lets you simply snap your Graco® SnugRide®, SnugRide® 32 or SnugRide® 35 Infant Car Seat into the SnugGlider frame to create an instant, anywhere swing. Plus, the Sweetpeace™ infant soothing swing (5.5-25 lbs) is also designed to let you snap your SnugRide® Infant Car Seat directly into the base so you can let your baby rock-a-bye – without disturbing her once it’s time to get in the car.

Finding the right swing for you and your baby will put you both at ease!
