Pinkie Pie (my youngest) is 16 months now so she is trying to learn how to use utensils to feed herself. It got me thinking about how fast she is growing up and how it feels like just yesterday that PP (my older daughter) was eating her first solids.
My pediatrician told me that I could start Pinkie Pie slowly on some rice cereal when she was about 4.5 months old (PP, the oldest, didn’t start rice cereal until she was 6 months old since she expressed no interest at all in eating solid foods). So, off I went to the store to buy some Gerber Rice Cereal and out came my Graco DuoDiner highchair. Pinkie Pie happily ate her rice cereal and we expanded into oatmeal after two weeks.
Since PP is a pretty picky eater (takes after her mom), I wanted to really expand Pinkie Pie’s palette to try to prevent her from becoming picky as well. I started her with green beans figuring if she liked those then she would definitely like sweet potatoes and squash. Luckily, Pinkie Pie did like her greens (and still eats them today!). Once we went through all of the vegetables, then I introduced her to the fruits (which of course are almost every baby’s favorite).
At her 1 year appointment, my pediatrician said to start to move away from baby food and feed Pinkie Pie what we eat, but in very small pieces. I have to say that Pinkie Pie amazes me every day with what she will eat. She loves meat! Meatballs & sausage are her favorites (PP won’t touch that stuff, nor will I). Pinkie Pie also loves her fruit, drinkable yogurt and of course, Goldfish (any flavor will do…).
What’s on the menu for your little one? And when did they start eating their first solid foods?
