I seem to always be writing here about Gracie’s “firsts” – first snow and first cold, first Christmas, first photoshoots, first go at sleep training. It seemed only appropriate then that I share with y’all another very fun first we had recently: Gracie’s first playdate!
My daughter and I are very fortunate that I work with (and live near!) several other mamas and their little ones. So a couple weekends ago, Anne Marie and Little Man hosted us for a delightful brunch and baby social gathering.
Oh, the babies LOVED it – and none more than my gal Gracie. They all checked each other out, shared toys graciously, did a little group floor exercising, and generally enjoyed each other’s company. It’s incredible for me to watch babies be so very aware of their surroundings and the people in it. The highlight for my daughter? Seeing her future prom date, Big B, and playing with the pigtails of his older sister, Sweet P!
We had a special visitor join us for some baby watching that day as well… can you spot Deanna and her beautiful belly in the photos? She took a break from working on her baby’s nursery to get a little taste of what her future holds…
This playdate was a special way for us all to connect – especially because so many playgroup activities or baby exercise and music classes seem to be scheduled during times that working moms are unavailable. We vowed to make this a regular thing – perhaps meeting at a park as the weather continues to warm up? I think it’s so important – for my baby’s sake and my own – to have a community to belong to.
Tell me about your playgroups; what do you do to help your little ones connect with tykes their own size? And how do you find ways to fit in playtime around your work (or their sleep) schedules?
