What are the height and weight limits for the Smart Seat?
- Rear-Facing: 40 lbs and the top of the child’s head must be at least 1 inch below the top of the headrest of the seat
- Forward-Facing Harness Mode: 65 lbs and 50”
- Forward-Facing Booster Mode: 100 lbs and 57”
Can you use the Smart Seat as an infant carrier or in a stroller?
No, the #SmartSeat does not have a carry handle—it’s not designed to be a travel system, or to act as a carrier.
Does the Smart Seat come with a base?
The Smart Seat comes with one base that only needs to be installed one time for use in both rear-facing and forward-facing modes. The base must be used in both rear-facing and forward-facing modes, but should NOT be used in booster mode. Additional bases can be purchased for $99.99.
How much does the Smart Seat weight with the base and without the base?
The Smart Seat weighs 21lbs without the base and 33 lbs with the base. The seat IS heavy, because it is steel reinforced for strength and durability.
Will the Smart Seat fit into a smaller car?
Graco has conducted several studies on fit to the most popular vehicle models. See here for some photos showing the seat’s fit in a sedan.
What is the price of the Smart Seat?
The Smart Seat costs $299.99, which includes a base. Additional bases can be purchased for $99.99.
Where do you buy the Smart Seat?
You can purchase the Smart Seat exclusively at Babies “R” Us.
When should I use each recline position?
3 recline positions are available in rear-facing mode, which can be used as long as you stay in the window of the level indicator. When your child turns forward-facing, all levels of recline are acceptable up to 40 lbs.
What is the warranty on the Smart Seat?

Is the Smart Seat compatible with other Graco car seat bases?
No, the Smart Seat cannot be used with any other Graco car seat bases.
Is Smart Seat FAA approved?
No, the Smart Seat is not FAA approved.
When does the Smart Seat expire?
The Smart Seat expires 10 years from the date of manufacture.
Does the Smart Seat convert to a backless booster?
No, the Smart Seat does not convert to a backless booster.

Does the Smart Seat have a place to attach toys?
We do not recommend attaching toys to a car seat as they can become a projectile in a crash.
What are the harness measurements for the Smart Seat?
Harness Slot Heights (6 positions)
- Rear-facing position (with cushion insert): 8.5″, 10″, 11 1/2″
- Forward facing positions (without insert): 14″, 16″, 18″
Crotch strap positions:
- 4 1/4″ and 5 1/2″
Crotch strap length:
- 6″ to top of buckle (same as the MyRide 65)
Belt guide heights in booster mode:
- Lowest 14″
- Highest 19″
Does the Smart Seat need to follow the 80/20 rule?
The Smart Seat can follow the 80/20 rule (80% of the car seat must be on the vehicle seat) when the base is used, but in booster mode, 100 percent of the Smart Seat must be on the vehicle seat.
