Every year on Christmas Eve my father reads Twas the Night Before Christmas to my son before we leave his house to head home to bed before Santa comes.

One of my favorite traditions is making Christmas goodies. My sister and I always helped my mom make cookies and other treats and I am excited to make these same treats with my boys! Another tradition that my mom started 3 years ago with my first son was to get him a Christmas ornament that is related to what he was that year for Halloween. I think it is a great idea so that when they are older, they will have a bunch of ornaments that have special meaning ready for their own Christmas trees and will be able to remember what they were for Halloween at the same time!

Our favorite Christmas tradition is listening to music that has been passed down over generations while decorating our tree and then on Christmas morning while we open gifts. Our grandparents listened to the “First Christmas Record for Children” (it has all of the classics) on record. Our parents listened to the same music but on tape, and now we listen to it on cd! :) It makes life seem a little more simple….

We always get pjs for Christmas and open them on Christmas eve to wear them Christmas eve and the morning of Christmas. Also we call my grandma ever Christmas morning and tell her about the food. She loves to hear what all make. She’s a food fanatic lol

  5. Hayley Crow-Smith December 20, 2011 at 3:18 pm #

Our family celebrates every year by going out Christmas caroling throughout the neighborhood on Christmas Eve. We then come home to a warm house, a mug of hot coco, and we read the story of Christmas. Then we each get to open 1 present before bed. The kids set out milk and cookies for Santa, and of course carrots for the reindeer. Then off to bed they go to wait for Santa to arrive in the morning.

  6. Alicia Leslie December 20, 2011 at 3:20 pm #

Are family tradition is to open the kids pjs and slippers on Christmas eve so they have new pjs to where to bed.

We have several traditions in our family, but one of my favorites growing up (and one I still do with my own family) is making sugar cookies and frosting/decorating them together as a family. I look forward to it every year!

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

Every year I take my boys to the store and they pick out 1 new ornament for the tree. I put their names and year on the ornament so in the following years we can look back at who picked which one and when.

  11. Angelia Vazquez December 20, 2011 at 3:41 pm #

This is my first Christmas with my daughter Abigail. We don’t technically have a tradition yet but I want to to start a tradition of each year getting a ordainment and putting her year and name on it for her to put on the tree when she gets older. :)

  12. brenda December 20, 2011 at 3:43 pm #

Every year when I was little our family would have a game. The game was, we all put our names in a hat and who ever you got, you would have to get them an ugly gift. I looked forward to this all year. I would search for the best one and would hope I would win, but my mom would always find the ugliest one. After we all opened those gifts, who ever was the one that bought the ugliest would win a prize. Cant wait to have my kids grow up so I can start this with them.

Every Christmas we all come to together and make a big Christmas dinner with sweet honey ham, corn, sweet peas, yams and other things people want.

  14. Melissa Molina December 20, 2011 at 3:49 pm #

Our tradition is to open the presents from family and friends on Christmas Eve and then on Christmas morning we open our presents from Santa.

  15. Summer Broome December 20, 2011 at 3:51 pm #

We hide a pickle ornament on the tree and whoever finds it first gets a special gift and gets to decide what kind of cookies we make for Santa!

  16. Diana Palmer December 20, 2011 at 3:55 pm #

Our family tradition is to go to church on christmas eve with the whole family and then we come back to my house to have a lovely christmas eve dinner and before everyone goes home we all open one present. We open all the other gifts on Christmas morning. I am looking forward to next christmas when it will be our baby’s first christmas :)

Every year we fill the stockings on Dec. 6th to celebrate the feast day of St. Nicholas (Santa Claus!) and my mom also always put out oranges and nuts so this is something I am going to continue in my family.

  18. Shannon Dennis December 20, 2011 at 4:47 pm #

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is spending Christmas morning with my grandparents, parents, cousins, aunts, uncles & anyone else who decides to show up. Just listening to all the different stories our family tells from their past & present!

  21. Hillary Westbrook December 20, 2011 at 5:57 pm #

My parents always left a small gift under the small xmas trees on our nightstands to keep us in our rooms a little longer. They still do this and i’m expecting my first child :) I’ll carry on the tradition!

  22. StitchDoll December 20, 2011 at 8:36 pm #

My family has several traditions that we enjoy doing every year. The one that brings us the most enjoyment is volunteering at the local community center helping to raise money for Christmas food boxes so that those less fortunate or without family can still have a Christmas dinner. We help pick up the $2500.00 food order and we put the boxes together and help deliver to those without transportation and the elderly. Out of the all the other traditions that we have as a family for Christmas. From opening presents, watching Christmas movies together, visiting relatives, and baking cookies, this is the one that brings the most joy to our hearts. Especially when you stop to realize how many are less fortunate than ourselves and when they greet you at the door with tears in their eyes and the words “Thank You so much” on their lips.

  23. Alyssa December 20, 2011 at 9:05 pm #

Every year on Christmas Eve, we unwrap a few gifts that are wrapped in shiny silver paper. Everybody gets new winter/Christmas themed pajamas and a Christmas book or movie. We spend the night with homemade hot cocoa, Christmas cookies, Christmas themed crafts for the kids, Christmas stories and movies. :)

  24. Courtney December 20, 2011 at 9:23 pm #

Christmas morning starts off with milk and cookies, Church, and then family being together watching A Christmas Story! :)

  25. Frida F December 20, 2011 at 11:37 pm #

My favorite holiday tradition is when our family gets together and decorate the christmas tree. Then we go to my mom’s house and bake cookies together

  26. Katherine December 21, 2011 at 2:20 am #

My husband and boys buy an engraved ornament for our tree every year. It’s always a surprise for me to see what style and inscription they chose. I can’t wait to have a tree just of those ornaments one day down the road!

  27. Brianna December 21, 2011 at 5:13 am #

About ten years ago I began making truffles. It is a very simple recipe and requires rolling a chocolate mixture into balls and coating with different toppings. This year, my three year old daughter was old enough to help. My 5 yo niece and 6 yo nephew were visiting, so I allowed the three of them to form the truffles and choose the coatings. Sure, the truffles looked like little “presents” the dog had left, covered in an array of sprinkles, but they had so much fun and were so proud! This is definitely something I plan to continue with my daughter and her soon-to-be brother.

Our parents put the gift under the tree on the night of 24, we always wait for that night. then we have a family dinner on 25 and we meet our love ones. I want to continue it in my family.

  29. Stephanie December 21, 2011 at 12:01 pm #

We have several family traditions for each holiday, traditions are extremely important to me,they are what the kids never forget-all the bad times are forgotten,it’s the good times w family that are remembered and treasured. For Christmas we 1st pick out a new ornament per child(4).The younger ones get an ornament that reflects that year, the older ones pick one that fits their personality/style that yr.We play Christmas music while decorating and putting up tree the day after Thanksgiving. We then, beginning Dec.1st watch a Christmas movie each night, our favorite (we usually watch quite a few times!) is “Polar Express”.There’s also the tradition of the advent calendar which is exciting, more so when they’re younger but fun for the older one again now that there’s several advent apps that are interactive-what would we do w/out technology!Christmas Eve we make Santa cookies, write him a thank you letter, and say a prayer for the birth of Jesus thanking God for sending His son through the virgin Mary in a simple setting reminding us the importance of Christmas and life is about simplicity, family, togetherness, and love-not stuff or fancy homes.God found it fitting His son be born in a stable laid in a manger with hay,so we should be thankful for whatever roof covers our head, food we eat,and clean clothes on our body.We wake early Christmas morning, say another prayer of praise Jesus is born, open gifts!!and bake yummy iced cinnamon rolls before spending the rest of the day in p.j’s being lazy enjoying the time together. One last thing,we participate in a program of giving called operation Christmas child through the church to remember it is better to give than to receive and there are many far less fortunate than us.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Holidays for those who need to be politically correct;)

  30. Katie Walz December 21, 2011 at 12:44 pm #

Every year my family eats at the Walnut Room in Macy’s in Chicago around the big Christmas tree. This year was the first time for my son to join in the tradition. I have been going since I was 8 years old.

  31. Kristine Holloway December 26, 2011 at 5:59 pm #

Our family tradition begins when Santa sends his scout elves out to Adoption Centers worldwide. Waiting for their families to bring them home, these patient elves hibernate until their family reads the book that goes with The Elf on the Shelf, gives their special elf a name, and registers his/her adoption. These ‘scout’ elves become the eyes and ears of Santa Claus, listening and relaying information back to the North Pole while everyone is sleeping. The family Elf is often found hiding in strange and peculiar places throughout the house (inside the dryer, washing machine, fridge, beds, etcetera). Then, on Christmas Eve the family Elf flies back to the North Pole to be seen again the following Christmas.

Every year we let the boys pick out an ornament for the tree of their liking and open matching Christmas jammies on Christmas Eve.

Every year we light our lanterns and take a walk in the snow( fingers crossed there always is some). My dad started this after watching a hallmark commercial!
    Lots of fun!

  35. melissa smith March 10, 2012 at 1:23 am #

My favorite holiday tradition is a week before Christmas, all of the women in the family get together and make holiday treats, like brownies, carmel popcorn, truffles, and split them between all the families for pre-holiday treats.

  36. Sherri Malchow May 14, 2012 at 2:18 pm #

Our favorite Christmas traditions are baking and decorating Christmas Cookies with the entire family and Grandma’s house and “Santa” sneaking into the kids rooms Christmas Eve night and ringing his bells.

  37. Chad Erickson August 17, 2012 at 2:38 pm #

Well- I must admit that our family pretty much resembles Clark and the Griswold’s during the Holiday season. We cut our own tree at a local farm and decorate the house together from the top to the bottom to the 9’s. But- what makes us the “fun” family every year ? It’s the Erickson Family Christmas Card. Goofy, odd, remarkable and totally WOW! People save our cards and hang them up every year. We also get ASKED for other friends and neighbors to be added to our send-out list. (wish I could add a picture here) Happy Christmas in August to ALL.

  38. Dawn Bucalo August 17, 2012 at 2:44 pm #

For us it’s the Bucalo Family’s “ULGY Holiday Sweater” party. Friends, Family and neighbors mingle at the “must be at” party of the year. And when I tell you we get laughs, we get them all right. Zany, awkward and extremely CRAZY.

We take photos and share them on Facebook for people to vote…

Every year the completion really heats up with the winner taking home the coveted Moose Mug Collection that continues to get passed on to many family’s.

Please join us for this years crazziness!
