Registries are funny: you’re expected to know exactly what you might want or need as a new parent – all before you even meet your little one. As a new mother, I look over my former registry with a grimace. Did I truly need those adorable baby sandals for the early newborn days? And what was I thinking registering for a “nursing-friendly” top that was dry clean only?
Now that I’m two months into my new gig as a mother, I’d like to think I’m a bit more realistic in knowing what products are essential to survive those early months. In fact, here are five that would top my list if I could re-register all over again!:
1. Sweet Slumber Sound Machine
We’ve been using a sound machine since day one with Bee, and it’s one of the few products that have truly lived up to their hype. Just a click of the white noise button and our daughter is sleeping soundly in five minutes flat.
2. True Focus Digital Video Monitor
A good friend of mine recommended a video monitor when I was pregnant, but I thought it was an unnecessary luxury. Yet after witnessing how anxious I was when Bee began sleeping in her crib for the first time, I quickly learned a video monitor is worth its weight in gold. After all, it can be nerve-racking enough getting the baby to sleep; no need to stress when she finally gets there!
3. SnugRide Click Connect 40
When I shopped for products to register for, I tried to search for items that could stand the test of time. This car seat is the perfect registry must-have, as you’ll be enjoying it from ages newborn through two years. What a perfect gift to request!
4. SnugRider Elite
This stroller base works well with the SnugRide Click Connect 40, creating a perfect travel system for errands and outings. The best part? A stroller base is far more portable than a separate bulky stroller and is a space-saving dream to store!
I didn’t register for a baby swing and I’m still kicking myself for it. For the first six weeks of Bee’s life, I rocked/held/cuddled my daughter the entire day long. It wasn’t until I borrowed a friend’s swing that I realized something beautiful: I could finally use my hands again! My daughter loves her Graco swing and it’s the perfect place for her to play while I’m preparing meals or (gasp!) showering.
What about you, friends – were you surprised by what you truly needed for your newborn? Any must-haves you wish you’d added to your registry?
