Well, along with being oh-so-convenient and cute, your stroller also has a number of safety features built into its design.

So, we at Graco wanted to share a few simple safety tips to keep in mind while you’re on the go:

- Avoid risk of serious injuries from your child falling or sliding out of a stroller by always using the harness system. After fastening the buckles, adjust the harness to get a snug fit around your child. We recommend using a harness every single time, even if you’re not in motion!

- Never leave a child unattended in a stroller; always keep your child in view.

- As with any product, carefully read the entire instruction manual before use.

- When transporting an infant who is fully reclined, make sure to use the bassinet enclosure feature.

- Never use a stroller on stairs or escalators. Use extra care when going up or down a step or curb. Always use an elevator or ramp, when available.

- To prevent a stroller from tipping, do not place articles such as purses, shopping bags, parcels or accessories, over the handles.

- From time to time check your stroller for loose screws, worn parts, torn material or stitching, and replace or repair the parts as needed. Make sure to discontinue using your stroller should it become damaged or broken.

- To help avoid burn injuries, never place hot liquids on the parent’s tray.

- Never attach toys or other objects with strings on the stroller that could be a strangulation hazard for your child.

First, I’ll start with a little Travel System 101.

What is a travel system? A travel system is a pre-packaged stroller & infant car seat all in one box. Note: The infant car seat should include a stay-in car base, so you can install the base in your vehicle. The infant car seat will then snap in & out of the base and should snap into your stroller as well.

Another Travel System option is to “make your own” by purchasing a stroller with a matching infant car seat.

Why do you need a travel system? The travel system is an important first purchase. You will need an car seat in order to leave the hospital (it’s the law!) and it gives you the ability to easily get out and about with your baby once the he/she is born. The other benefit of a travel system is the ability to transport your little one by snapping them from a swing to the car without disturbing them.

What do I need to know? People buy a travel system because you can easily and conveniently transport your infant from car to stroller to house without disturbing your resting baby. Awesome, huh? Just keep in mind that with a travel system it is important to understand the infant car  seat features, to ensure proper usage.

Which travel system is best for me? Below are some things to consider while selecting your “perfect” travel system:

– Lifestyle: Are you always on the go? Do you live in the city or suburbs? Your lifestyle is important to consider since it will determine if you will want a lightweight travel system vs. a full-size travel system.
– Maneuverability: Take the stroller for a test stroll around the store. Make sure you like the way it turns corners and stops. Remember, some stroller wheels may be locked in the store for display purposes, so make sure you unlock those front locks first and then take it for a stroll.
– Storage: This is a big deal for a lot of moms. Make sure you are happy with the amount of storage on the stroller. Also, parent and child cup holders are always a plus for those days at the mall or at the park.
– Fold: Test out the stroller fold in the store. Make sure you are comfortable folding and un-folding the stroller–you’ll be doing it a lot!
– Infant Car Seat: As I mentioned above, the infant car seat is an extremely important part of your travel system. Safety is top priority so make sure your travel system includes a Top Rated seat that has been rigorously crash tested, as well as Side Impact Tested. Test out how you snap the infant car seat in and out of the stroller and make sure it’s easy to do.

I’m talking about the  Signature Series Graco 3-in-1 stroller. Not only does the stroller look good, but it is  incredibly functional too.

Since it was relatively nice this weekend in Atlanta, the Parlaman clan decided to take a stroll around the neighborhood. I wanted  face-to-face time with Little Pinkie Pie so I decided to have her face me in the stroller. This stroller allows your child to face you or face away from you. Not only did I like seeing her adorable little face, but I also loved seeing her delight while saying “weeee” as we zipped around the neighborhood (I have to say, this stroller really is ultra maneuverable and easy to steer).

On Sunday, we visited a local science museum and I decided to have Pinkie Pie facing away from me  so she could see the exhibit– in style. Reversing the direction of the seat turned out to be pretty simple. I just just squeezed the gray handles on both sides of the seat and I could then place it in either direction. It’s also worth noting that there is a ton of storage with this stroller! It has double cup holders for both mom and baby (even though drinks were not permitted in the museum), the basket was large and it was easy to get to all of my  stuff–diaper bag, coats, museum program, and stuffed animals (we had lots of good stuff in there). Once we were finished at the museum, I simply removed the stroller seat, squeezed the fold latch and the stroller was ready for storage in the trunk of my car.

I do have to point out a couple of things about this stroller that I did not personally use since Pinkie Pie is 18 months and just outgrew her infant carrier, but I still need to tell you about (since they are awesome features). The Signature Series 3-in-1 stroller includes a car seat adapter so ANY Graco SnugRide infant car seat can easily be snapped into the stroller to create your own travel system.

Once the SnugRide infant car seat is attached, you will see that the car seat is higher than traditional travel systems and you can actually get in closer to your baby due to the higher position and a curved handle. This handle, the Closeness Handle allows you to lean in close to your baby so you can touch her nose, put her pacifier back in her mouth (which is what my daughter loved), adjust her “lovey” or tickle her feet. This feature does not stop you from  capitalizing on the large storage basket and smooth maneuverability of the stroller, as well as the 3-position stroller seat that lies flat for the younger child.

I will say it again,  this stroller is not only easy to use and maneuver, it also looks so good!

The stroller offers great features for the Mom that has a new a baby, such as the elevated car seat position, Closeness Handle, reclining stroller seat that lies flat, and easy access to the stroller basket; and has awesome features for the Mom with an older child, like the reversible seat, 3-position reclining seat, and cup holders for both Mom & baby. And, it folds for storage in two easy steps: remove the stroller seat (or the car seat adapter depending on which one you are using) and squeeze the fold latch to store in your car trunk.
