At Graco, safety is our top priority. Today, we would like to share some information on a voluntary recall issued this morning involving older models of Graco Quattro Tour™ and MetroLite™ stroller models.

This notice is meant to inform consumers of a potential risk of entrapment to small children, especially to infants younger than 12 months of age who are not properly harnessed in the stroller.

The recall involves older versions of the Graco Quattro Tour and Metrolite strollers and travel systems manufactured before July 2007, prior to the existence of a voluntary industry standard that was put in place later that year to address the height of the opening between the stroller’s tray and the seat bottom. The current voluntary standard requires larger stroller openings that prevent infant entrapment and strangulation risk.

To find out if your model is affected, and to order a repair kit, click here.

This recall involves all Graco Quattro Tour™, Quattro Tour Travel System™, MetroLite™, and MetroLite Travel System™, strollers and travel system strollers distributed between November 2000 and December 2007. The model numbers are printed on a label at the lower portion of the rear frame, just above the rear wheels or underneath the stroller. The name “Graco” appears on a label on the stroller tray and the headrest.

Quattro Stroller

MetroLite Stroller

If your stroller is affected by this safety notice, there is no need to return your product. Graco will provide a repair kit free of charge upon request. To order a repair kit, click here.

In the meantime, we’re advising consumers to stop using their strollers until they receive a repair kit, however, the stroller is still safe to use as a travel system (with the infant car seat attached).

For a child’s safety, when using a stroller, parents and caregivers are encouraged to ALWAYS secure children by using the safety harness and never leaving them unattended. We urge parents to check their stroller’s instruction manual for more information on how to ensure safe stroller use.

To order a repair kit immediately, you may fill out an online order form here or call our consumer service line toll free at 800-345-4109 (available 7 days a week, 24 hrs). Please allow roughly 7-10 business days for delivery.

Again, safety is our highest priority here at Graco. We want to make sure parents and caregivers know to always secure children in their strollers by using the safety harness and never leave children to sleep unsupervised in strollers, especially in older models.

As a part of our continued commitment to child safety, we are helping the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) get the word out about crib recalls announced today by two manufacturers. Some of the models included in this announcement may also contain the Graco® logo.

The first is being announced by one of our current partners, LaJobi, who is issuing a voluntary recall for its drop-side cribs. While there have been no reported major injuries associated with LaJobi-manufactured cribs; the company is issuing this recall in collaboration with the CPSC as a proactive, conservative measure.

For people who own a LaJobi drop-side crib, the CPSC is advising consumers to stop using the cribs immediately and to contact LaJobi toll-free at (888) 842-2215, or visit the firm’s Web site at www.LaJobi.com. For more information, click here.

The second announcement involves cribs manufactured by Simplicity prior to 2005, and Graco terminated its licensing agreement with Simplicity at the end of that calendar year.

For those who own a Simplicity crib, the CPSC is advising consumers to stop using the cribs immediately and contact the retailer where the crib was purchased for a refund, replacement or store credit. For more information, click here.

No matter which crib you may have, we urge you to visit the CPSC Web site to check your model.

If you have additional questions, please feel free to reach out to us. We appreciate your help in spreading the word on this important matter.

**SAFETY NOTICE FOR SELECT DESIGNS OF GRACO PASSAGE, SPREE AND ALANO STROLLERS – JANUARY 20, 2010**

**We have updated the images below to show additional hinge designs manufactured by Graco. Only strollers matching the top left photo are affected by this notice**

At Graco, we are committed to child safety and to providing the safest products possible for parents and caregivers. As another way to get the word out, we occasionally use the blog to share information on safety notices and updates.

Today we are announcing a voluntary recall for select Passage™, Alano™, and Spree™ model strollers manufactured by Graco prior to March 2008. This notice is meant to inform consumers of a potential risk of injury to small children caused by the canopy hinge on these models.

Graco has produced two (2) different styles of the canopy hinge for these stroller model numbers (in the top two photos below). Graco has also produced similar-looking hinge designs on other stroller models. Strollers or travel systems with the canopy hinge shown in the top left photo are the only strollers involved in this notice. All other hinge styles are NOT affected by this announcement. You can check to see if your model is affected here.

Strollers with the canopy hinge design shown in the top left photo above are the ONLY models affected.

If your stroller is affected by this safety notice, there is no need to return your product. Graco will provide a canopy hinge cover free of charge upon request.

In the meantime, we’re advising consumers to stop using their strollers, and to contact Graco to order a protective cover for the hinge.

To order a canopy hinge cover immediately, you may fill out an online order form here or call our consumer service line at 800-345-4109. Please allow roughly 7-10 business days for delivery. To find your stroller’s model number and manufacturing date , it can be found on a sticker located on the lower, inside portion of the rear frame, above the rear wheels. If you have a serial number instead of a date, the serial number can help you identify the date:

If you have determined your stroller is affected, contact us to receive a protective hinge cover. Once you have received the cover, here are step-by-step instructions on how to apply the protective hinge covers to your stroller.

Step 1: Identify that you have the stroller model with the canopy hinge that is shown.

Step 2: Unsnap the protective cover and undo the hook and loop tape in order to place it around the canopy bar. Note the orientation of the snap for correct placement over the canopy hinge.

Step 3: Wrap snap end of cover around canopy bar as shown and fasten snap together.

Step 4: Close the canopy by pushing it toward the stroller handle. Facing the front of the stroller, slide the protective cover down the canopy bar so that the bottom portion of the protective cover is positioned as shown. MAKE SURE that the hook and loop tape of the protective cover are directly around the canopy hinge.

Step 5: Tightly wrap the protective cover around the canopy hinge and fasten the hook and loop tape by pressing firmly along entire length of it.

Step 6: Rotate and position the protective cover as shown making sure that the hook and loop tape and snap are inaccessible to the child. Verify that the canopy hinge is completely covered by checking that the snap and hook and loop tape are not visible.

In our continued commitment to child safety, we are helping the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) get the word out about the re-announcement of the Simplicity Close-Sleeper/Bedside Sleeper Bassinet recall, initially announced a year ago.

The CPSC is once again urging all parents and caregivers to immediately stop using the convertible “close-sleeper/bedside sleeper” bassinets manufactured by Simplicity Inc., of Reading, Pa.

Because the safety of children is of the utmost importance to us, we feel that it is important for consumers to be aware that certain Simplicity bassinets which were sold between 2001 and 2004 involved in this safety alert may also contain the Graco® logo and “Winnie the Pooh” Motif. Simplicity bassinets manufactured through 2008 without Graco® branding may also be affected by this recall.

No matter which brand you think you have, we urge you to visit the CPSC Web site to check your model.

As readers of this blog, we know that a lot of you have many online connections to friends, families and broader communities. We are asking you to help us relay this important message in a joint effort to help keep children safe. Thank you in advance for whatever help you can provide us.

Though most of the time you will find us talking about our experiences as parents and occasionally we’ll throw in a post or two about Graco® and our products; we will also use the blog as an additional way to get out safety information about an issue or a recall. We know our readers are engaged consumers and are connected to their friends online so we hope you help us spread the word to your communities as well.

Today we are announcing a SAFETY NOTICE for the Graco Jump ‘n Jive™ jumper.
Graco Children’s Products Inc. is announcing a safety notice regarding the Jump ‘n Jive jumper which may contain a design flaw that could expose children to a small part choking hazard. The affected jumpers contain detachable toys that utilize a strip of hook and loop fabric for attaching the toys to the jumper straps. (see photo to the side) The strip of fabric is not permanently attached to the toy and may become detached during use, thus posing a potential choking hazard to small children. The Jump ‘n Jive jumpers (model number 1755544) manufactured from March 1, 2009 through July 17, 2009 are affected by this notice.

If your jumper is affected you should immediately discard both the detachable toys and fabric strips. The jumper can still be used once you have discarded the affected parts.

For more information, you can view the safety notice on the CPSC website here or go to the recall page on our site.

Because the Graco blog is an additional way of sharing information with our consumers, we wanted to make sure all of our readers are aware of a recent recall involving bassinets manufactured by Simplicity, Inc. – some of the models affected by this recall may carry the Graco logo.
Upon learning of the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s safety alert regarding the recall of several models of the Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 Convertible close-sleeper/bedside sleeper bassinets, Graco Children’s Products contacted the CPSC to ensure that they were aware that certain models of the bassinets manufactured by Simplicity and involved in this alert may include a Graco® logo, through a past licensing agreement with Simplicity.

Because the safety of children is of the utmost importance to us, we feel that it is important for consumers to be aware that certain Simplicity bassinets involved in this safety alert, which were sold between 2001 and 2004, could be branded with the Graco® logo. These models include:

While we always strive to have a personal voice here on the blog, there will be certain situations where we will need to share the official company position regarding certain issues. As such, I am presenting you with Graco’s official response to a recent report released by FOE:

Today a report was released by the Friends of the Earth organization that there is a concern about possible health effects of halogenated fire retardants found in juvenile products. Although FOE has not yet supplied us with their specific findings about our products, we take reports such as this very seriously.

All products manufactured by Graco Children’s Products meet or exceed all relevant regulations and standards including those put forth by the Consumer Products Safety Commission and the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association.

Even though industry experts deem these materials to be safe for continued use, Graco will be reviewing the report closely and is committed to evaluating alternative materials to use in our products.

At Graco, safety is always a top priority and nothing is more important than the well-being of the children who use our products. This is our commitment – not only as manufacturers but as parents as well.

If you have any questions about this, feel free to reach out to Consumer Services at 1-800-345-4109.
